Haringey Hounds vs Invicta – (3-1 win) - Alexandra Palace Ice Rink has officially re-opened and the honour of being the very first team to play hockey on this brand new ice rink falls to our very own U14 Hounds.
Invicta, being second in the division standings arrived full of confidence believing us to be a pushover. However, they couldn’t have been more mistaken. Fielding a squad comprising of a mixture of rookies and veteran players the Hounds are excited to be back at Alexandra Palace.
39 seconds into the game and Solomon Smith rockets a beautiful shot past the opposing goalie from the top of the circle, assisted by Fionn Hembruff and Matt English. Our team’s spirits lifted by this success manage to keep this lead throughout the period by out skating Invicta and by passing the puck around the rink like a well oiled Ice Hockey machine.
3 minutes into the second period, whilst on a rare powerplay, Fionn Hembruff gets a breakaway and puts our second past the Invicta netminder. This period saw us taking 10 minutes in penalties which we successfully killed off. In the 32ndminute of the game Solomon managed his second goal, and our third, assisted by a lovely pass from Andrew Franz. Oli Brenner was looking unbeatable between the pipes , having successfully fielded 19 shots on goal, until someone mentioned the “S” word to him on ice (“Shutout”, for those that don’t know, should never be said during a game as it brings bad luck). Sure enough, the hockey gods were listening in and punished us by allowing Invicta a short handed breakaway goal in the 34th minute.
Player of the match went to Jazmin Jones and Spirit to Oli Brenner. Absolutely Brilliant Guys!!
